what we're looking for:
though we accept submissions from all voices, we aim to emphasize marginalized voices and give a platform for those that are typically underrepresented.
we accept flash (>1,000 words), fiction (1,200-5,000 words), and art submissions.
our issues focus around weird girl fiction*, feminist fiction, literary fiction, social commentary, speculative fiction, horror, and reimagined fairytales. as always, we love genre-bending so feel comfortable dabbling in each (broad) genre above!
*weird girl fiction is inherently hard to define, however as a frame of reference, LONG EARS defines weird girl fiction as the following:
heroines and characters who refuse to fit in a box
narratives about the complexities of girlhood, motherhood, sisterhood, and marriage, etc.
and above all--a story that gets weird
guidelines:
please do not submit anything with gratuitous violence, sex, or profanities.
we will not accept any submissions that are homophobic, misogynistic, racist, or any forms of hate speech. LONG EARS reserves the right to reject any submission(s) that is deemed as hate speech.
please do not submit stories that we have previously rejected.
at this time we are only accepting submissions from the United States. all work must be submitted in english.
AI policy:
please do not submit anything AI-generated in any form. this means AI-generated, assisted, OR edited prose will not be considered. likewise, any AI-generated or assisted art will not be accepted.
how to submit:
submit via our submissions form.
submissions must be in standard manuscript format to be considered. we ask that you use times new roman and 12pt font and double spaces with page numbers. we will only accept PDF and DOCX files.
to ensure that submissions are anonymous, we ask that you remove your name or any identifying features in the file name and on the document itself. your name/identity should only be present in your cover letter and author bio.

simultaneous submissions:
LONG EARS is run by writers, so we understand the importance of sending simultaneous submissions. however, we ask that you please inform LONG EARS by email as soon as you find out your piece has been selected for publication eslewhere.
in the event that your piece is selected for publication, you grant LONG EARS First North American Serial Rights and exclusive First Electronic Rights for six months following publication. thereafter, LONG EARS retains non-exclusive archival rights to display the work in its online archives, all other rights revert to the author. we request that any subsequent republication include the acknowledgement: Originally published in LONG EARS Literary Magazine.
response time:
our publication runs on quarterly issues.
for our debut issue the submission time is September 1st at 12:00 am EST to September 30th at 11:59 pm EST.
our first issue will be released on October 31st, 2026. this specific issue will have a response time frame of one month.
